Accessibility for educational games is a work in progress across the industry. We continually seek solutions to make our products fully accessible and we strive to adhere to established standards for accessibility and usability on each new project. In this statement, we summarize the accessibility features included with the Virtual Labs, so that learners are better able to maximize and tailor their learning experience to fit their own personal learning style.
Content of Application:
Virtual Labs is a series of eight modules that help students learn basic laboratory techniques and practice methods used by lab technicians and researchers in a variety of careers, using specific food science lab processes.
It is easy for consumers to take safe food for granted: as most people don’t understand the rigorous testing, research and assessment food and food processing requires. Healthy, safe food is of extreme importance and vital to human survival. Expert lab technicians help make sure that the food we eat and feed to our animals will not harm us or our livestock.
Approach & Input Device:
Virtual Labs are built in HTML5 and can be accessed from a web-based browser. The modules are not supported by screen reading software, however professionally voiced narration of on-screen text is included throughout. Virtual Labs are available as apps for iPads. These apps can be found on the App Store.
